Mary Adeline (Novotny) Grubbs Graesser was born January 6, 1030 near Winner, SD to Albert and Josephine (Rehak) Novotny. She was the fourth of eleven children.

Mary was united in marriage to George Grubbs on September 21, 1948. From this union they had six children, Vickie, Terry, Dan, George Jr., Linda, and Starla. They operated the Gregory Airport and had an aerial spraying business for many years. Mary worked as a bookkeeper for the business.

Mary enjoyed working in her garden and her time spent with her grandchildren: Josh Grubbs, Krisann Mayfield, Deanna Mendoza, Dana Davis, Rayelle Dooley, Jesse Dooley, and Julia Dooley. She was active in the Episcopal Church and worked tirelessly as an advocate for the Maypole Dance. Mary enjoyed bowling, dancing, and talking with friends and family.

Mary passed away May 27, 2015 at the age of 85.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, son Dan, daughter Linda, three brothers Leo, Butch, and Harry, and two sisters Ann and Katherine.

Mary is survived by four children Vickie Grubbs, San Diego, CA, Terry Grubbs, Gregory, SD, George (Lynnae) Grubbs, Gilbert, AZ, and Starla (Bob) Dooley, Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; sisters Martha, Dorothy, Alberta, Connie; and brother Don.

Funeral services for Mary Grubbs Graesser were held Thursday, June 4, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Incarnation Episcopal Church in Gregory, SD with Reverend Annie Henninger officiating. A visitation was held Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home.

Deanna Nelson and Lisa Mikkelson were in charge of registration.

Flower attendants were Lisa Mikkelson and Leanne Sinclair.

Music was provided by Mary Beth Gergen, organist and soloist, singing "Rejoice in Paradise" and "In His Hands." Congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Special music "The Rose" was performed by the family.

Pastor Russ Grim gave the eulogy.

Casket Bearers were Al Pontillo, Dan Vavra, Dan Beck, Bill Haines, Russ Grim, and Steve Bartling.

Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Gregory, SD, at a later date.
