Kenneth Ivan Drey was born January 15, 1927, on a farm northeast of Gregory, SD, to Benjamin and Anne Helen (Miller) Drey. He welcomed two younger sisters, Edith Mae and Beverly, into the family. He passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Home in Sioux Falls, SD.

Ken attended country grade school and graduated from Gregory High School in 1945. He lived in Gregory for most of his life. The last year of his life he lived with his son David and wife Judy in Harford, SD until he moved into the Good Samaritan Home in Sioux Falls, SD.

After graduating from high school, Ken enlisted in the United States Army on June 27, 1945 and was honorably discharged on November 25, 1946. Ken worked several years at Gregory Independent Oil Company. While working there, he started Drey's Septic Tank Service, which he owned and operated until he retired in 2007 at the age of 80.

After the death of Orvilla, Ken married Donna Horton in 1982. Five step-children and their families were added to the family. He spent his spare time planting flowers and tending his garden. He loved sitting on his deck visiting with family and friends.

After Glow

I'd like the memory of me
To be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an after glow
Of smiles when life is done.

I'd like to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days.

I'd like the tears of those who grieve,
To dry before the sun
Of happy memories
That I leave when life is done.
