Delores Hilda (Pelc) Nelson was born on August 11, 1945 in Albion, NE, the fourth child of John and Hilda (Holmberg) Pelc. She grew up on the family farm near Butte. After finishing the eighth grade, Delores stayed home and helped on the farm.
Delores met Merle Nelson on her birthday in 1962 at a wedding dance. They were married on September 7, 1963 at the Methodist Church in Spencer, NE. They had three children Russell, Priscilla, and Edward.
They first made their home in Colome were Merle worked for the Shippy's. In 1965 they moved to Carroll, NE where Merle worked as a farm hand. In 1967 the family moved to Atkinson where Delores continued to raise the family and Merle worked for an area farmer. In 1970 they starting farming for themselves and Delores helped on the farm where ever she was needed. They farmed in Tripp County, Herrick and Chambers, NE. The family moved to the Gregory area in 1983.
In 1983 Delores started working at the Gregory Hospital and held positions in the kitchen, laundry, and housekeeping department until 2002. During this time she also worked as a part time dishwasher at the Homesteader Steakhouse in Gregory. After Merle suddenly passed away in July of 2002, she moved to Mitchell and worked at Brady Nursing Home doing housekeeping until May 2003. She then returned to Gregory and began working at the Homesteader as a full time dishwasher. She also worked part time at the Gregory Nursing Home as a dietary aide. Delores also did some substitution janitorial and kitchen work at the Gregory School when needed over the last five years. She continued working until she became too ill with cancer in March of 2015 to continue. Delores was a very dedicated and hard worker.
Delores had a special place in her heart for her cats, Blackie, Boots, and Blue. She would take such great care of them that some of them lived over 25 years.
Delores was an avid reader. She also loved to cross stitch and quilt. She made many keepsake quilts over the years. Delores enjoyed the family's restored tractors that were seen in many Fourth of July parades. Delores loved her family and will be greatly missed.
Surrounded by her family, Delores passed away on November 13, 2015, after a brave fight against cancer.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merle, sister Laverne Roth, Brother Harlan Pelc, father and mother-in-law, brothers-in-law Dave Kocian, Marvin Miller, and Dearl Nelson, and sister-in-law Susie Pelc.
