Tribute & Message From The Family

Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Kristi by adding your memories and photos.

Kristi Lynn Olson was born July 31, 1978 in Winner, South Dakota to Jerald Lee Olson and Gay Lynn Olson. She was the younger sister of Jamie Lee Olson. Kristi was later joined by two half brothers, Joshua Olson and Justin Olson.

Kristi graduated from Burke High School in 1996. She lived the majority of her life on her grandparent's farm in Dallas, South Dakota. She had a very strong connection with her grandmother, Lee Barry, and cared for her for many years. She loved living and raising her children on that same farm.

Kristi's whole world revolved around her seven children. Her eldest daughter, Samantha, was born in 1997, followed by Layne, Matilynn, Kadyn, Vanessa, Marisa and Jake. She was an amazing mother who did everything in her power to provide for her children. She supported them in their extra-curricular activities and encouraged them to try new things.

Kristi was an extremely hard worker. She worked multiple jobs to support her family. She was always willing to help anyone who needed it. There wasn't
anything she wouldn't do to help those she cared about. Kristi had a heart of gold and lived her life to the fullest. She also loved spending time outdoors with the family, planting and caring for her flowers, and also gardening.

Kristi also had a way with animals. As a little girl, she loved all animals. During her teenage years she had a deep connection with horses. Anytime she could she would go out riding. As a young adult she began raising St. Bernards, which she did for many years. She even made a little enclosed area she called "Turtle Haven" where she put the turtles she found on the road. She wanted to make sure the kids had turtles to race over the 4th of July. Kristi always had pets around for her children which included horses, dogs, cats, goats, sheep and the turtles.

Kristi passed away on June 1, 2017 at the age of 38. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Kenneth Olson, grandfather, Al Barry, grandmother Lee Barry, and cousin Jordyn Hespe.

Kristi is survived by her children, Samantha, Layne, Matilynn, Kadyn, Vanessa, Marisa and Jake; her mother, Gay Lynn Barry; father, Jerry Olson (Denise); three brothers, Jamie (Mica), Josh (Nichole), and Justin (Klaycie); her grandmother, Marilyn Olson; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Condolence & Memory Journal

GayLynn, Sam,Layne, Mattie, Kadyn, Nessa, Rissa, and Jake, I hope you are all doing Ok, I love u all more than you know.
Kristi- This has been so hard, I think about you every day, I try so hard to stay strong like you would have told me to, but I still fall apart. You were always the one I would go to when I needed support and you were always there to pick me up. I remember the day we went out on the four wheelers and got stuck in the mud and we both lost our shoes trying to get the four wheeler out. I remember meeting in the middle of the driveway so we could talk without being interrupted. I remember painting the house and seeing the gigantic snake and I refused to get out of the back of the pickup. I remember sitting on your back porch listening to you cry and knowing that if it was me having a bad day you would always be there for me too. I remember you out mowing in your bra and laughing at me when I told you to put your clothes back on. I remember our nighttime swims when we would talk about anything and every thing. I miss our 4th of July's watching fireworks with all the kids in your driveway and grabbing as many kids as we could when the firework tipped over, I remember how much you love your kids and did everything you could to support them and make them happy. Kristi, you have always been like a sister to me, always straight forward and so sure about everything. Even when I was 1600 miles away out in
Oregon I still had my best friend in Dallas. Kristi I love you and miss you so much. There's not a day that goes by that I don't shed a tear for you. You were my best friend and my sister through thick and thin. Kids- your mom is our guardian angel just like she was when she was alive. I love you Kristi.

I will truly miss you my friend. I always had a good time when we were all together. It hurts knowing we will never have a barbecue, times at the BA, and how could we forget beer pong in my garage. I will pray for your family and children. U will never be forgotten! ❤

Kristi came into the bakery almost everyday. She always had a smile and a loving word to say to me, even on the days she didn't feel well. A life so young to be taken so tragically. God Bless her family and all who loved her.
